Swimming is a way of life for most people in the country. And it is up to swim coaches to make sure that this way of life is maintained and carried forward to the coming generations. A swim coach is usually hired by clubs, schools and dedicated swimming facilities to provide people with training to swim properly. Swim coaches are trained and experienced people who have a knack for not just swimming but teaching the sport as well.

Requirements

To work as a swim coach, most facilities require a degree in physical education and a swim coach certificate from a state approved training center. Apart from this, it is important for swimming coaches to be physically fit and have the ability to handle sticky situations while training. Not everyone can be a good teacher / trainer – a swim coach must be patient as he or she often has to teach children and adults who are not too friendly with water.

As a swim coach, it is important that you have a pleasant attitude and know the first aid and CPR procedures inside out. Working as a swim coach means that you will have to be aware of your surroundings continuously, since you will not only coach people but also make sure that they are safe while they are in water. • Determine each student’s swimming ability, interest and limitation and ensure that a correlating training program is created accordingly

• Strategize different ways of teaching swimming to a diverse group of students, aiming to reach each student’s individual goals

• Provide students with information on understanding and mastering different types of strokes

• Assist students in developing and improving the technical skills of swimming through an extensive and all-inclusive training program

• Teach students to master flip turns and swim entire series of repeats without rest to enhance their stamina and skill

• Develop and implement both group and individual swimming learning / training goals for students based on their specific abilities

• Oversee swimming training sessions and provide additional / extra assistance to struggling swimmers

• Monitor students during swimming training to ensure that they are safe and comfortable with the strategies

• Evaluate student performance on a regular basis and provide insight to them to help them improve their stance and techniques
