The role of dietitians and nutritionists has become quite profound in our lives owing to growing health concerns worldwide. People want to live longer and healthier lives and more and more of them are following diet trends in order to achieve their health goals.

Owing to this, the need to hire dietitians and nutritionists has become very high and even the healthiest of individuals look up to these professionals to assist them with their daily nutrition needs.

While the work of a dietitian and a nutritionist is slightly different from each other, many of their duties overlap which is the reason that these two are thought of synonymously.

Nowadays, a major part of either job is to control diseases by planning nutrition programs and overseeing the preparation of healthy meals.

Dietitian and Nutritionist Duties and Responsibilities

• Confer with patients to determine their health and nutrition goals

• Take patients’ medical histories and ask relevant health-related questions

• Make notes on a constant basis to ensure that all information is recorded properly

• Discuss food allergies and preferences with patients

• Calculate each patient’s nutritional requirements and make nutrition plans accordingly

• Plan and implement diet programs for patients based on their individual patient profiles

• Ensure that the diet plan implemented is in sync with patients’ food preferences

• Assist in food preparation activities to make sure that each meal is prepared according to the provided recipe

• Provide counseling to patients regarding healthy eating habits with a view to handle diseases such as diabetes and hypertension

• Promote healthy eating habits by providing patients with education on leading healthy lifestyles and corresponding benefits

• Handle dietary modifications for patients with constantly changing medical or physical needs

• Provide patients with advice on healthy eating and procuring healthy food items

• Provide total parenteral nutrition for patients who have trouble ingesting food

• Promote nutritional diet and food awareness through set public service programs in communities and educational institutes

• Handle dietary, nutritional and epidemiological research activities with a view to enhancing the informational base
