Nutrition is essential for all of us to lead a healthy life. There has been much debate on the need to eat nutritious food over the last decade because organic food is hard to find these days.

Almost everyone eats food that is full of the effects of pesticides and steroids, and thus, malnutrition is a huge problem.

 

Dieticians help us with this problem. They provide us with information that is necessary to lead a healthy life as far as our food is concerned.

Dietary Job Description

Dietary professionals design nutrition programs according to the individual needs of the person that they are catering to.

These healthcare professionals advise their clients on what to eat and how often to eat in order for them to achieve a specific health goal.

Some people consult dieticians because they want to lose weight; others may want to counter a health problem such as diabetes and blood pressure.

With autoimmune diseases now closely linked with diets, dieticians also help their clients with choosing what to eat in order to keep their immune systems in check.

Dietary Job Requirements

Dieticians and dietary aides (people working to support dieticians in analyzing clients’ needs and assisting in the design and preparation of diet plans) are employed at several places, including nursing homes and hospitals.

Both need to possess formal education; dieticians are mainly required to maintain an associate degree from an accredited program approved by the ADA (American Dietetic Association).

Education is one factor that helps a dietician or a dietary aide perform well in his or her work, but it is not the only important factor. There are some essential skills and qualifications that an individual needs to be able to carry out his or her work effectively as a dietician or a dietary aide.

• Comprehension of providing education to clients regarding the different problems they can face following poor dietary habits

• In-depth knowledge of medical issues associated with diet and the ability to formulate diet plans accordingly

• Hands on experience of calculating clients’ nutritional needs

• Demonstrated ability to impart counseling in order to make clients understand the need to manage their eating habits effectively

• Knowledge of dentistry which may come in handy when dealing with clients who have dental issues about poor diet
