In addition, they ensure that their wards are given the best possible personal services including assistance with bathing, grooming, dressing, toileting, and eating.

Mostly, personal carers work in people’s homes, but dedicated rehabilitation or care facilities may employ some.

Personal Carer Duties and Responsibilities

  • Engage assigned patients/wards in conversation to gauge their personalities and individual likes and dislikes.
  • Thoroughly read and understand care plans developed by doctors or nursing professionals to determine courses of action on a daily basis.
  • Assist patients with their personal needs including toileting, bathing, grooming, and washing while maintaining their dignity and self-respect.
  • Enable mobility by pushing wheelchairs or assisting with walking and provide help by checking and properly placing specialist equipment.
  • Plan menus and recipes according to patients’ health statuses and ensure that the kitchen staff prepares their food accordingly.
